3rd Annual Brain Party





Commemorating IEEE’s 125th Anniversary

The Brain Party is an annual event started by the Austin Chamber in 2007 in honor of Central Texas Engineers for their contributions making Austin the Human Capital. This year IEEE is celebrating 125 years of engineering the future. Recognized as the world’s leading non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of technology, IEEE has chosen 8 cities world-wide to help commemorate their achievement and success. Austin was selected for its industry expertise and countless contributions to technology. Together, the Austin Chamber, IEEE and Goodwill will be hosting the 3rd Annual Brain Party to honor the Central Texas engineers.

Who: All Central Texas Engineers and IEEE members are invited to attend.

When: April 30, 2009 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Registration: The free event is exclusive to engineers or IEEE members. To register, email your name, company and whether or not you are an IEEE member to Vicki Segna. Admission at door with business card or student ID.

The event will consist of food by McCormick & Schmick’s coupled with music by the Blues Crawlers.

Stimulate Your Brain with these Activities During the Day

Tech Fair: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The door64.com Tech Fair is a showcase of Central Texas technology companies to provide exposure in the local tech community. This is a great promotional opportunity that may lead to new customers, partners, hiring candidates, suppliers, investors and other unique relationships. Several talks will also be given to discuss career options in the current local economy. The entire event is free, and all members of the local tech community are invited to attend. Companies may register to exhibit their literature and feature their contributions to our constantly evolving high-tech industry. Attendees may RSVP here.

Guest Panel: “The Engineer of 2020” 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

A guest panel of local academic and industry professionals will address the topic of the “The Engineer of 2020.” They will discuss the necessary tools and skills needed to move beyond 2009 and will focus on how the changing times are affecting this progressive industry. A brief question and answer session will take place afterward.

Tech-excursions: 5 to 9 p.m.

Goodwill Computer Museum
The Goodwill Computer Museum, conceived in 1997 through the collection of electronic donations, features an assortment of vintage computing equipment. The displays range from handheld devices to large refrigerator-size mainframes. There is also an extensive collection of games and early generation gaming consoles available for museum guests to play and enjoy.

The Recycling Center
The Recycling Center is part of Goodwill’s Environmental Business Services division. They work with local organizations, government agencies and corporations to address electronic waste concerns. Over the past 10 years, the eco-conscious programs have evolved into an integrated electronic recycling center that diverts more than 250 tons of electronic debris from landfills each month.

UT Electrical Engineering Demos from 6 to 9 p.m.

Graduate student poster session in biofuels, next generation telescopes, 2-tier networks, and more with an opportunity to talk to the students about their research during the Brain Party.
